The Benefits Of Community Philanthropy

A company that participates in community philanthropy has cause to celebrate. It does not have to only give money but it is a source of many hands in the form of volunteers. Time is just as important as money. The company itself benefits along with its employees, the community and the cause being supported. Media attention directed to a given issue is a step toward a solution. While many people are acquainted with world issues through the news, the ones in their surrounding area may not be as well known.

A company can gain a reputation in the area it operates. It can become known as one that is known to encourage its employees to give hours to community service and that sponsors community events and projects. This shows the people who live and shop in the area that this company truly cares what happens to the surrounding neighborhood and to those who live in it.

There are some that will encourage employee donations directly from their paychecks then match those funds. In this way multiple organizations are receiving funds not just from the business itself but from its employees as well. The amount of giving can double or more. This shows the values of the business and those they employ.

Many consumers will go out of their way and even spend more at a business that supports their community. The increased media attention for the business and the local cause leads to greater profits for business and greater donations for the local organization. A company's dedication to its surrounding area brings in more customers and promotes customer loyalty.

When an employee feels that they are making a contribution to a greater purpose, there is a feeling of accomplishment outside of work performance. They can be much more productive in their work. There is a sense of pride in self and the company they work for.

A snowball effect happens in the area where a business and its employees are donating their time as well as money. The community event, project or foundation they are supporting gets more volunteers and donations for their cause. More people in the area come out to help and get more information. Many positive changes can occur in hearts and minds of volunteers, in addition to those who are directly benefited.

Community philanthropy causes so many things to happen in a community. It brings its members closer together working for common goals. A school or park can be cleaned up. After school activities and food programs can be continued or started. A community that invests in itself with time and money benefits everyone.
