Tips For Those Who Habitually Bite Their Nails
People who have a tendency to bite their nails are often dismissed as being ill mannered and that they should just decide to stop. What they do not know are the huge hurdles the nail biters face as a result of the psychological issues that accompany this habit.
They normally try their best to kick the habit out but it is not just a matter of will power. It is habit that goes deeper than just the effort of a person. So a treatment plan is highly recommended.
Granted it is very difficult to stop, but this habit must be gotten rid of at all cost. Numerous reasons exist why this habit is not to be encouraged to continue. To begin with, this habit is not very pleasant; it runs against the grain of etiquette. The habit itself is antisocial, so the nail biters are shunned by the society. Then there is the matter of physical repercussions, like red and painful fingers, ugly nails, and the possibility of picking up ugly diseases that can be passed to the mouth through dirty fingernails.
Types of the remedies for nail biting:
There is a special nail polish that is made as a treatment for they make the nails to taste bitter, and it is usually the first choice for them even though it does not work for everybody. It is true that it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth but its track record is dependent on whether the people will decide to go ahead with chewing despite the bad taste.
A few prescription drugs that have been tested are the psychopharmaca, and even the psychiatric treatment using behavioral therapy that combines anti depressants and anti-psychotics. Most of these have side issues and can only make a short term difference.
The nail biting hypnosis has been seen to work without any side effects at all. This therapy is unique since it encourages the use of the subconscious mind to achieve positive results. It gives quick outcome, since hypnosis help people to communicate with the section of the brain that controls the nail biting habit.
Of course everyone realizes that nail biting initially is as a result of nervousness that stems from emotional stress. So the use of hypnosis is to enable one deal with the emotional stress which is a better way of treating it.
