Rugby Legend Jason Robinson Back Training After Retirement
World Cup Rugby legend Jason Robinson has come out of retirement to play for national league club Fylde next season. After hanging up his boots at the end of the 2007-08 season he has decided to resume his career with a team that finished ninth in the National North Two league, three leagues below his Aviva Premiership.
He made his last professional appearance in the 2007 world cup final against South Africa in Paris but there is no doubt that the highlight of his career was his winning try in the 2003 World Cup victory over Australia on their home turf.
During his time off the field, Robinson has acted as head coach for Sale while taking an active role in during training to keep himself fit. The club did have a turbulent season and narrowly avoided relegation.
In a remarkable double whammy for Fylde, Robinson will be reunited with Brian Ashton who helped guide England to world cup victory in 2007 and recently joined the club as a coaching consultant. Aston said; "it's a remarkably fortunate coincidence to be returning to help out my old club Fylde as Jason arrives to play. I have had the privilege of working with Jason and know that his stature, ability and qualities as a player and a person will benefit all who come into contact with him."
Although playing, Robinson is expected fulfil off-the-pitch duties with Mark Nelson, who was his coach during his time at Sale during their premiership-winning 2005-06 season. Nelson, now head coach of Fylde, said, "I am delighted we have signed Jason for next season. Given his record in both codes, it's not an exaggeration to say he is the best ever rugby player".
His first game will be against Hull Lonians at their home ground, Brantingham Park on September 4th where he is expected to start the game and take a lead role with rumours he could hold the captaincy if this season goes well.
Although in retirement, Robinson has worn his Rugby Training Shirts and Rugby boots as he has taken a very active role during the coaching of Sale.
