It is also helpful to identify the factors that may be the cause for this particular employee's performance.
* When initiating your coaching, inform the employee that he has to make his self-evaluation. In this way, you can have a fair treatment as well as impartial feedback over the employee's performance. This will also help you and the employee compare your assessment.
* Now, with the employee's self-assessment and the management's criticism, you are now ready to deal with the coaching employees process. Ask him what could be done to change his performance and behavior towards work. Let the employee feel that you are guiding him to grow and develop.
* Part of this discussion is coming up with an action plan that aims to put the resolution to action. This will effectively help the employee achieve the expected ideal behavior or at least improve his performance. You will have to figure the ideal working condition that will further stimulate the employee's learning. Coach the employee to guide him to do his best to change for the better.
* During your coaching period, note the response of the employee with regards to the activities of your action plan. Take note of your observations and provide constructive feedback that should be given immediately while coaching employees.
* If you see the eagerness of the employee to change, you can schedule the coaching in short sessions. However, if you see that there is much improvement to do, coaching employees should be given with strict rules.
* Once you close the coaching session, give him or her positive advice in his performance. For future corrective actions, you can make an informal note about coaching employees for reference.
