Marketing To Niche Markets
Gary Ryan Blair is the president of The GoalsGuy in Tampa, Florida, and in fact, hes often called the Goals Guy because his is one of the worlds leading strategic planning and goal-setting trainers. Gary also has a training program called Got Goals?
Some of Garys bestselling books include Everything Counts, What Are Your Goals?, Goal Setting Forms, Goal Setting 101, and Goal Setting for Results. According to Gary, life wont go according to plan if you dont start with a plan.
Gary Ryan Blairs goal planning techniques have been used by many big-name sports teams and companies. including the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, Apple, FedEx, GE, DreamWorks, and Disney. In fact, his training services and programs have reached more than 80,000 organizations and five million employees from around the world.
As a young man, Gary thought his future would be all about football. Its the reason he signed on with the team from Syracuse University. Unfortunately, a lineman from Boston College took out both of Garys knees and ended his football dreams.
The football dream actually ended at what would prove to be a pivotal point in Garys life. AT&T was breaking up, and Gary felt there should be some sort of long-distance telephone service for college students. He wrote a report about his idea for a class, got an A on it, and at the same time landed a great job.
Not long afterwards, at only 21 years of age, Gary created the business hed dreamed about in his class. The first long-distance telephone service for college students was called Collegiate Telephony Services. Gary sold the company six years later to MCI and took a mini-retirement vacation to Europe.
After vacationing, boredom set in. Gary was itching to do something, but what could he do? He decided to buy a dealer, and immediately he realized that the best way to market a product was to pitch his sales line to niche markets rather than geographical ones.
It was also the time immediately following his vacation that Gary got his Dale Carnegie Course Certification. He asked himself what his strengths were, and he was smart enough to ask others as well. The answer? Strategy and goal planning. No one else was in the market yet, so his options were wide open. He came up with the GoalsGuy name just to have something catchy and memorable. It worked. People still think 'Blair' when they think 'Goals'.
