  • Hiring During Economic Crisis

    Here's a funny story about employment during these financially hard times.  A business owner just fired one of his employees.  The angry employee demanded a good reason for such a harsh and abrupt action.The owner rejected the accusation.  “I have treated you better than your own mother,” he remarked, “She only carried you for nine months but I’ve been carrying your sorry ass for a year!”
    Employment is getting trickier these days.  With a bad economy and flagging businesses, many employers are letting go of employees, whether with a heavy heart or out of necessity.Regular employees, fledgling entrepreneurs, and small businesses are going online for their employment needs.  Indeed, even though the unemployed statistics keep going up, there are still companies and businesses out there that are looking for the right people to hire.  With the current economic slowdown, headhunters and recruitment agencies are expecting more people to start posting their resumes online to look for jobs.  In Asian countries, such as the Philippines, there is always a demand for fresh labor, especially from the business process outsourcing (or BPO) sector. 
    Still, for small or medium-sized companies and businesses, the tendency is to do their own recruiting.  Although recruiting is a tedious process, recruitment agencies are being swamped with Australians clamoring for work.  While waiting for their payday advances even the employed are looking for a second job to augment their dwindling income.  Some even get fast cash loans during the work lull to get by.  Hundreds of job applications are submitted online everyday in Australia alone.  So, the next best thing for small-to-medium businesses is to cut cost by handling the recruitment process themselves, instead of using a specialist job agency.  However, it’s almost hard to believe that according to employment statistics almost 200,000 job positions posted online are still open—with no takers in sight.
